Gear Shaper

A gear shaper is a machine tool for cutting the teeth of an internal gear. The name shaper relates to the fact that the cutter engages the part on the forward stroke and pulls away from the part on the return stroke. To cut external teeth, a different machine called a gear hobbing machine is used.

The tool is also gear shaped having the same itch as the gear to be cut. However number of cutting teeth may be different from that of the gear to be cut.

Gears

Gears are toothed wheels or cogs are positive type drives which are used to transmit motion between two shafts or a shaft and a component having linear motion, by meshing of two or more gears. They have advantage over other drives such as chains and belts in case of precision machines where a definite velocity ratio is of importance and also in case where the driver and the follower are in close proximity.
